My fascination with knitting began when my 8 year-old self discovered a giant lump of teal green knitted fabric, on circular needles, in the back of the linen closet in our Peabody, Massachusetts ranch house.

Circular needles were virtually unknown in early 60s America. Leave it to my mom to be way ahead of the game (she also bought me my first Beatles single). She must have ordered the needles from Europe. I remember they had a twisted steel cable joining the ends together.

This was supposed to be an afghan. Much later in my knitting career I discovered why that giant unfinished afghan remained unfinished... a blanket is a long l-o-n-g, L-O-O-O-O-N-G knitting journey!

Knitting remained in the background, but every now and then I'd discover where the teal green afghan was hidden in the various homes we moved out of and in to.

While recovering from a long hospital stay in 1980, I picked up Barbara Walkers Treasury of Knitting Patterns and Elizabeth Zimmerman, and never looked back.

Skeinworthy is the culmination of all my fibery adventures, I hope you enjoy looking around!
